Western Shoshone Prevail at Ninth Circuit Court on Mt. Tenabo – Court Issues Ruling Enjoining Cortez Hills Open Pit Gold Mine

GBRW and Western Shoshone Defense Project oppose a mine by Cortez Joint Venture, Ltd., that would destroy Mt. Tenabo, a precious cultural site of the Western Shoshone. At more than 9,000 feet in elevation, Mount Tenabo towers over Crescent Valley.

In 2003, Cortez also announced a new discovery called Cortez Hills, which is close to the proposed mine and could potentially lead to the development of one continuous mine in the Cortez Mountains. Just to the south lies the Pipeline/South Pipeline complex, which has come under fire for extensive de-watering of Crescent Valley.

For current information and action see our Mt. Tenabo action page.
